Ok, been quit busy as the college football landscape gets better each week. Within the SWAC race, Southern University held on for dear life to escape Jackson, Mississippi with a 28-24 win over the Tigers. It always seems that the heated rivalry brings out the best in all things. Many believed that the Tigers were dead, however, with the infusion of former SU and current OC Chad Germany, the Tigers offense fought hard but ran out of gas late in the 4th. Southern’s QB Austin Howard went 24 for 35 for 288 yards with two TDs. WR Rendall Menard got back on track after being out with a hamstring injury to catch 2 TD’S. RB Lenard Tillary eased closer to that SWAC rushing record with 127 yards on 29 carries and 2 td’s. Willie Quinn did his thing but had a return TD called back for taunting. JSU was paced by Jarin Morikawa 136 yards passing anbd 1 TD.
Alcorn State celebrated it Homecoming with a 23-20 victory over the much improved Texas Southern Tigers. Lenorr. Footman paced the Braves with 196 yards passing and 2 td’s. WR Norlando Veals grabbed 6 balls for 106 yards and 2 td’s. TSU was paced by Averion Hurts 219 yards passing and 1 td. WR Austin Watts caught 5 balls for 111 yards and 1 td.
Alabama State won despite being a coach short against the MVSU Delta Devils 56-24. Coach Brian Jenkins was suspended for an NCAA violation. RB Khalid Thomas 150 yards rushing and 1 td to lead a balanced ground attack. MVSU was paced by WR Joshua Banks 8 balls for 177 yards and 2 td’s.
AAMU Bulldogs finally put together a full game with a victory over the UAPB Lions 40-7 in Pine Bluff. QB De’Angelo Ballard did it on the ground rushing for 89 yards and 3 tds . Ballard also passed for 214 and 1 td.
