Watching Grambling State a few years ago was sort of disheartening as the Tigers suffered through one of the programs worst season in history. In comes former Tiger Brian Fobbs. Fobbs first hire was former Southern University offensive guru and former UAPB Offensive Coordinator , Eric Dooley. Dooley isn’t a stranger to SWAC as he is a native of New Orleans , a graduate of Southern University and a well respected offensive minded coach who helped UAPB win the 2012 SWAC Championship. Dooley was also instrumental on former Southern University’s Pete Richardson staff as the Jags dominated the SWAC in the 90’s and early 2000’s as Black National Champs also. Returning to Louisiana after winning the 2012 SWAC championship as O.C. at UAPB to join coach Fobbs as he was building what he called a dream staff at Grambling was sort of a dream come true. Dooley in only his second year as Tiger’s O.C. has the GMEN pumping on all cylinders offensively. QB Johnathan Williams has sat many records and could overtake Bruce Eugene as the Tigers leading passer in the history books. Wide Receivers Chad Williams, Chester Rogers and Verlen Hunter are on pace to break a few receiving records if the Tigers continue into mid December via the Celebration Bowl. Dooley has managed to take advantage of the Tigers rooster and put guys into favorable positions and take advantage of what the defense has to offers. Scoring bunches of points is only the start. Spreading the ball around plus with the emergence of RB Martez Carter, the ground game has sort taken off after two nonexistant seasons prior to Dooley’s arrival. Dooley is also a noted recruiter who knows the state of Louisiana all too well. New Orleans is a prime target of where all the Tigers talent may emerge from. Baton Rouge and other small towns in between offer talent as well. Dooley has great communication skills in getting the best talent available. Even the Junior College route can be a great friend to Dooley as he can get great talent from the Mississippi junior colleges as well as the Alabama junior colleges also. Dooley is sort of a fan favorite to many who have gotten to know him over the years. Having ties to schools like Southern and Grambling go along way as many of the Jags and Tigers are family. However, Dooley greatest asset to the Tigers is his ability to bring all the offensive facets together and create one huge jugernot of an offense. Eric Dolley has proven himself to be well equipped to lead any program in the near future. Until than, Dooley will continue to lead the GMEN offense to victory.
