Simmons , Panthers survive on the Reservation….GMEN Pummel TSU……..MVSU takes one from the Bulldogs………..SU get back to winning….

Good Morning, Let’s get to it…..Week 9 was suppose to be sort of a statement week, however, it turned out to be blow out weekend…..LSU losing to Alabama by double digits among FBS schools. In SWAC play, PVAMU traveled to Lorman, Mississippi to take on the defending SWAC champs Alcorn State. Coach Willie Simmons, homecoming of sorts turned out to be a nightmare for the home standing Braves as the Panthers built a 19-0 lead and held on to defeat the Braves 40-34 to remain in the hunt for the West title. RB Johnta Hebert and Courtney Brown combined for nearly 300 yards rushing and 2tds to pace the Panthers. QB Trey Green was held to only 119 yards passing and no tds. Alcorn was paced QB Lenorr Footman 136 yards rushing and 2tds. The Braves scored 20 second half points butit wasn’t enough to catch the hot Panthers.

Coach Fobbs and his GMEN throttled Texas Southern 41-15 in Shreveport. QB Johnathan Williams 199 yards passing and 3tds paced the Tigers. RB Martez Carter rushed for 2tds to spark the ground game. TSU was paced by Derrick Griffin 2 tds which were highlighted by great acrobatic catches to lead TSU.

Southern got back on track as the Jags blew away UAPB 57-24 in Pine Bluff. QB Austin Howard passed for 229 yards and 4tds to pace the Jags. RB Lenard Tillery 111 yards on the ground and 1td paced the ground game. RB Malcolm Crockett 107 yards rushing and 1td aided the rushing game as well. UAPB QB Brandon Duncan 114 yards passing and 1td paced the Lions.

Coach Comengy finally cooked up a recipe for success as his Delta Devils went on the road and defeated the AAMU Bulldogs 27-24 in OT. MVSU Ruben Pirique kicked a 34 yard FG to seal the deal in OT. Devils QB Slade Jarmon 177 yards passing and 2tds paced the Devils. AAMU Damion May 123 yards passing and 2tds paced the Bulldogs.

Alabama State ended any hopes of Jackson State sneaking up on Alcorn in the standings as the Hornets defeated the Tigers 17-12 in Jackson. ASU RB Khalid Thomas rushed for 139 yards to pace the Hornets.
