As we head into week six of college football, several things have came to preminition. With the firing of JSU’S Harold Jackson during their bye week, the SWAC seems to be like a soap opera of sorts. Assistant/WR Coach Derrick McCall takes over at JSU on a temporary basis. McCall is a former JSU QB seeks to lead the Tigers in a different direction. It’s sort of a light week in the SWAC as many teams have bye weeks before beginning a brutal stretch. However, Southern University heads to Montgomery to take on the hot ASU Hornets who have won two straight since dropping their first three games. Southern is coming off a bye week , last game losing to SEC power Georgia 48-6 in Athens. Coach Dawson Odums feared the worst for his Jags as they lost WR Devan Gales with a spinal injury against the Bulldogs. Gales has been in good spirits as the nation has poured support and funds in help off setting cost once he returns home to Baton Rouge. The Jaguars however are a team to be reckoned with. QB Austin Howard has been fantastic as he has passed for nearly 600 yards and several TD’S. RB Leonard Tillary and Malcolm Crockett have been the SWAC’S best 1 -2 punch as they lead the ground game. WR Willie Quinn looks to find the endzone again after being shut out by the Bulldogs. ASU has been on a tear lately. QB Ellis Richardson has found his groove has he has lit up MVSU and TSU in the air and on ground with nearly 500 yards of total offense in both of those games. Coach Brian Jenkins finally broke through and now wants to catch the Alcorn State Braves in the win column.

AAMU is coming off a whipping of Coastal Carolina 55-0. Coach Spady takes his Bulldogs into familair territory as the GMEN of Grambling State welcomes them. Spady is a former GSU assistant and knows the Tiger all to well. AAMU will try to slow down GSU’s QB Johnathan Williams as he has passed for nearly 1200 yards and 15tds. Williams also has the feet to cause problems to most defenses. RB Martiez Carter has been a beast as well as he is nearing 400 yards and 5tds on the ground. WR Chad Williams and Chester Rogers lead a bevy of pass catchers for the Tigers
