Heading into week 5 was very greuling for some teams however, college football never seems to amaze me. Schools like LSU continue to rise. However, within the SWAC , you begin to separate contenders from pretenders. Grambling State made a statement in the Dallas Cotton Bowl as they rolled to a 70-56 win over PVAMU. QB Johnathan Williams threw 6 Tds along with 429 yards. RB returned 2 kickoffs for Tds as well. WR Chad Williams 193 yards receiving and 2 TDS and Chester Rogers 114 yards and 2tds paced the recieving game. PVAMU put up huge numbers also. QB Trey Green 414 yards and 4TDS paced the Panther offense. Backup QB D’auntrey Smiley rushed for 3tds as well. WR Nick Pitre 114 and 1td paced the Panther air game.
Alcorn State didn’t waste any time disposing Concordia 47-7 as QB John Gibbs passed for 198 and two tds to lead the Braves offense. RB Darran Ragsdale rushed for 138 yards and 1 td to pace the ground game. TE Jordan Payne also scored 2tds as well.
Coach Brian Jenkins finally broke into the win column has the Hornets disposed of the MVSU Delta Devils 45-15 in the Valley. QB Ellis Richardson rushed for 3tds and passed for 127 yards and 2tds to pace the Hornets offense. ASU racked up 444 yards of total offense as the Hornets won in a runaway. MVSU scored late as RB Booker Chambers scored twice.
Coach Harold Jackson has been singing the blues for much of the season until TSU came to town. JSU used a key sack late in the 4th quarter to escape 34-30 over the upstart TSU Tigers in Jackson. QB Lamontiez Ivy 370 yards and 3tds paced the Tigers offense. WR Devin Fosselman and Dan Williams combined for nearly 300 yards and 2 Tds to paced the Tigers air game. Coach Daryl Asberry’s TSU Tigers Avion Hurts 174 yards and 3tds paced TSU offense. WR Derrick Griffin continue to make a name for himself as his 114 yards and 3tds paced TSU air game.
UAPB came into Huntsville looking for an upset for OC Athony Jones but left with a headache as the Bulldogs rushed to a 28-9 victory at home. QB D’angalo Ballad 353 yards and 3tds paced the Bulldogs. WR Tevin Mckenzie 91 yards and 2tds paced the Bulldogs air game.
In a national televised via the SEC Network, Southern University to it’s high octane offense into Athens, Ga too take on the #8 Georgia Bulldogs. The Jags put up a fight however, the SEC Bulldogs were a bit too much for the FCS Jaguars to handle with a 48-6 victory. UGA was paced by QB Grayson Lambert 146 yards and 2tds . RB Nick Chubb 131 yards and 3tds paced the running game. SU was paced by RB Lenard Tillary 82 yards and 1td. QB Justin Howard and WR Willie Quinn didn’t get a chance to do damange as they normally would have done within SWAC play. Also, WR Devan Gales injured his spine in blocking on a kickoff return for Southern. UGA has shown great support by even paying for transportaion for his family.
