William Broussard , Southern University former A.D. , now the top aid the SU’S president had a reason for scheduling the SEC Powerhouse. One could be that the payoff would be much needed in the Athetic budget that has been crippled by state wide cuts among other things. Another could be that Georgia would be a formiable opponent which would generate interest in Baton Rouge as well as in the Atlanta area for JAGUAR alumni and fans to partake in. Southern’s Human Jukebox has already been included in the contract as many Georgia fans are in for a treat at halftime. With Southern and it’s band heading into Athens this weekend, many folk have gotten their tickets and the Jaguar Nation will be deep in the Atlanta area. Win, lose or draw, Southern bring it. Now lets’ talk football.
Southern is coming off a 50-31 whipping of Jackson State in Baton Rouge which sent a stantement throughout the SWAC as well as in Athens. The Jags offense has scored 100 points in 2 games and seemed to be peeking at the right time. QB Austin Howard has been playing well of late. With nearly 700 yard and 2 Tds. RB Leonard Tillary has rushed for 300 yards and 5tds. WR Randall Menard has 10 catches for 202 yards and 1TD. WR Willie Quinn has made it to the endzone in every game this season and could pose a problem if the Bulldogs try him. LB Kentavious Preston has 21 stops to lead a tough Jaguar defense. Southern’s offense has been hot of late. However, plkaying the #7 team out of the SEC in Georgia will be a huge test. The Bulldogs are stock mpiled with talent at every position and could really turn this thing into a nightmare for the Jaguars. QB Grayson Lambert leads the Bulldog attack with 543 yards passing and 5Tds. All American candidate Nick Chubb 468 yards rushing and 4tds paces the ground game. WR Malcolm Mitchell leads with 15 catches for 210 yards amd 2 tds to pace the Bulldogs air game. The Bulldogs are solid on the defensive side of the ball as well.
The talk has been ” how will the Jags come out of this matchup without any injuries”?. Well, If Southern plays well enough for a moral victory while protecting their much prized assets, QB Austin Howard, RB Leonard Tillary, WR Willie Quinn, and a few lineman, they might win the moral game. Returning to Baton Rouge with a nice payday and everyone else still intact will be a win there for the Jaguars…………..
