After being dismantled by FBS programs , several SWAC Teams looks to break into win column……

Whew!!!…..Week one is over as many SWAC schools would say…….Now it’s time to get to business as conference play begins for many SWAC programs. The game of the week will feature defending SWAC Champs Alcorn State heading into Montgomery to take on the Alabama State Hornets in which could be the deciding factor in the Eastern race. Alcorn is coming off a embarrassment of FBS Georgia Tech 69-6 drubbing. Coach Hopson is hoping that QB John Gibbs can get it together and lead the Braves to victory. Coach Brian Jenkins lead Tennesse State 14-0 before the bottom fall out last week in Nashville. Jenkins is hoping that his Hornets can play a complete game in order to pull the upset at Hornet stadium. QB Daniel Duhart threw for 225 yards and 1 TD in a loss to the Tigers. This game could be something special.

Coach Harold Jackson hasn’t had the best of luck in his 2nd year on Lynch Street. Jackson State is coming off a blistering loss to FBS MTSU 70-14,  heads into Memphis for the annual showdown with the Tennesse State Tigers . JSU were tied at 14 with the Blue Raiders until hell broke loose. QB LamMontiez Tivy leads a balanced attack with 264 yardes in the air. WR Dam Williams is picking up where he left off last years as the Tigers top target. Williams 7 catches for 130 and TD is tops. Defensively, Stacy Noble leads with 13 stops. Tennesse State is coming off a come from behind win over SWAC foe Alabama State 24-14. TSU is lead by QB Oshay Carter 188 yards paasing for 1 TD. WR Isiah Jeffries leads to air game with 5 catches for 73 yards.

UAPB sees SIAC Morehouse College as a capbale opponent to break into the winning column at home. MC is coming off a win over Edward Water College 51-7. The Maroon Tigers are lead by RB Isiah Hicks 11 carries for 116 yards and 2 TD’S . Coach Monte Coleman would like to forget his trip to Disney World last weekend as his Lions were blitzed by the MEAC’S South Carolina State 35-7. Lions are paced by RB Brian Handley with 13 carries for 51 yards.

Coming off a huge win over rival Texas Southern 38-11 did Coach Willie Simmons well as the Panther Nation has awaken to bigger and better things to come. PVAMU takes it’s 1-0 record into nSan Marcos to test the FBS Texas State Bobcats. QB Trey Green leads the Panther attack with 167 yards passing and 1 TD. RB Courtney Brown and Johnta Hebert give the Panthers a 1-2 on the ground game. The Bobcats are coming off a blow out loss to Florida State 59-16 in Tallahasse. PVAMU offers a rememdy for that. QB T.Jones leads to air attach with 100 yards passing.

Coach Daryl Asberry is starting to feel the heat after only one game. That loss to rival PVAMU didnt sit to well with Tiger faithful. Well , with division III Bacone College coming into Houston tonight, Asberry will try to win the faithful back by putting up huge numbers and releasing 6’7 WR Derrick Griffin , an athletic NFL prototype stud. QB Johnthan Bowen threw for 109 yards in the loss to the Panthers. Bacone is lead by QB Roderick Mackey with 19 carries for 91 yards. Alex Wilson leads the Warriors defense with 21 stops.

The GMEN return home to host the Bethune Cookman Wildcats. Grambling is coming off a 73-14 shallacking of Pac 12’s Cal Bears. QB Johnathan Williams 103 yards passing leads the Tigers , however 4 INT’S doesn’t make things better. RB Montez Carter leads the Tiger ground game with 9 carries for 112 and 1 TD. The Wildcats are coming off a 45-0 loss to Miami.
