Good morning, Let’s get to it….Alcorn State punched it’s ticket to the SWAC championship game as the East Champ with a convincing win at AAMU. QB John Gibbs continues his record setting season as he has thrown for nearly 2, 000 yards and rushe for over 600. RB Ragsdale has even been greater as he has lead the Braves ground game week after week. Coach Hopson has really done an excellent job in turning around the Braves program. The Brave Nation has already began making hotel reservations in Houston. The opponent is still up in the air as Grambling State hold a half game lead over Southern University. With both the Tigers and Jaguars hosting Alabama State and MVSU respectively , the Bayou Classic is begining to look like old times with 80% tickets already sold for the game. The winner advances to Houston. Other games of note:
PVAMU ( 4-5, 4-4 ) AT AAMU ( 5-5 , 4-4)
The Panthers are coming off a whale of a win over UAPB in Pine Bluff. RB Johnta Hebert and Jerry Lovelace had a huge game in leading the Panthers in the ground and in the air. They also limited the Lions defensively and kept them out of the endzone for a long time. With the win, PV can have a winning season under Coach Northern. AAMU is coming off a lost at home to Alcorn. Coach Spady’s offense has been hot and cold. The Bulldog’s defense has given up too many big plays at the wrong time. This game could be one for the ages. My take…..Bulldogs will ground it out against the Panthers soft interior defense…….
Alabama State at Grambling State
The Hornets are coming off a hard fought win over Jackson State. Coach Barlow has been under fire for not winning enough games in Montegomery. RB Cyrus leads a well balanced attack for the Hornets. Defensivlky, the Hornets attacking style could cause problems for GSU young offense. The GMEN are coming off a win over MVSU on last Thursday. QB Johnathan Williams is the key cog in getting the Tigers rolling. WR Chester Rogers lead a bevy of WR’S for the Tigers to complement a strong running game. My take, GMEN keep it close in cold weather and remain underfeated heading into New Orkeans in two weeks.
Jackson State at Texas Southern
JSU season is all but a lost. Coach Harold Jackson has gotten a once championship type team only 3 wins this year. Many Tiger faithful have called for his head as well as AD Vivian Fuller’s head also. QB Ivy and WR Dan Williams makes the Blue Bengals go. Defensively, Javante Dancy leads a staple crop of stars of the Darkside. TSU is coming off a road loss to Southern University. After starting 5-1, the Tigers are on a 4 game skid which could lead to another losing season if TSU loses Saturday to JSU. QB Smalls and Homer Causey leads the TSU attach. WR Larry Clark leads the recieving corps. Defensive, DE Akir leads a staple up front pass rush for the TSU Tigers. My take, TSU wins at home to close out their 2014 season.
UAPB at Alcorn State
UAPB is coming off a loss at home to PVAMU. The Lions have been nothing short of great. Coach Monte Coleman’s offense has been sparactic. QB Ben Anderson leads the Lions. Defensively, it’s been a long year. Alcorn State has already clinched the East and a few more wins wouldn’t hurt. QB John Gibbs leads the Braves offense. My take……Alcorn gets another win added to the docket.
MVSU at Southern
Coach Comengy accomplished one thing…..Beating JSU for their homecoming….enough said. Comengy had taken the Tigers to the SWAC championship game two striaght seasons however, losing. JSU fired Comengy. He was hired at MVSU as it’s savior. QB Patrick Ivy leads a MVSU offense while the defense has looked good at time. Coming off a tough loss to Grambling, The Delta Devils have the task of going into Baton Rouge to take on the red hot Southern Jags. SU is lead by QB Justin Howard, RB Leonard Tillery , WR Willkie Quinn just to name a few. Defensile, DL Authur Miley can be a beast. My take , …Jags win big on the bluff…….
