Good morning, I hope that everyone has a blessed day. OK, We have reached the home strentch for the 2014 SWAC Football season. Alcorn State controls it’s own destiny as the Braves can secure a trip to Houston by defeating Alabama A&M next weekend. The Braves are idle. Meanwhile, the WEST is a dog and cat fight. Grambling State is leading Southern by a half of a game . Both the Tigers and Jaguars face tough opponents in Texas Southern and Alabama State. GSU is 5-0 can win out. SU is 4-1 can win out also. TSU is basically out of the running with it’s lost at home to UAPB. The Tigers are 2 games back and must still face GSU, SU and JSU. If both GSU and SU wins out, the Bayou Classic will be something special. Here is a look at this weekend’s matchups:

Grambling State ( 5-3 , 5-0 ) at Texas Southern ( 5-3 , 3-3)

GSU is coming off a bye and looks to continue it’s momentum towards the SWAC Championship. Lead by QB Jonathan Williams, the Tigers offense keeps chugging along. Defensely, they have begun to jell together. Coach Fobbs however, must keep his young Tigers focused on their trip into Houston. TSU is coming off a tough loss and looks to derail that GSU train. QB Homer Causey is back under center to lead the TSU offense. WR Larry Clark and Fred Humphery continues to make catches. The defense has given up too many big plays in key game situations. This game will come down to which defense makes a stop. My take, GSU has their minds sat on returning back to Houston in December.

UAPB( 2-5 , 1-5) AT MVSU ( 2-5 , 1-5)

This game is the battle of the Mid South I call it. Both programs have struggled as of late. The Lions are coming off a huge road win at TSU 38-37. Coach Coleman has had his issues but the Lions are capable of putting up points but their defense is capable of allowing points as well. MVSU was idle last week but they are struggling also. Coach Comengy has made his season with a huge win over JSU however, the were throttle by PVAMU at home. This game will be sort of those type of games that will have lots of flags but the emotion will be there. My take……..UAPB will put up points and win in the Valley……

AAMU ( 3-4 , 2-4) AT JSU ( 3-4 , 1-4 )

AAMU is comig off a big win over rival Alabama State in the Magic City Classic. Coach Spady’s Bulldogs have played well however in losses to GSU and SU, they could not finsh off the games. The Bulldog pistol can move the ball but’s it’s the Bulldog defense that gives up too many big plays in key situations. JSU is on a 3 game slide as the Blue BENGALS have seemed to have toss in the towel in coach Harold Jackson’s first season. Coming off a tough loss to SU 42-28 AT home, the Tigers must find a way to win ball games. With this game being the last home game for the Seniors it may carry momentum needed on the road as the Tigers finish out their season at Alabama State, TSU and Alcorn. My Take…….JSU’s Ivy and Dan Williams will will the Tigers to victory……

Alabama State ( 3-4  , 3-3 ) at Southern ( 5-3 , 4-1 )

This game was suppose to be the appetizer for the SWAC championship game. However, things seem to have changed for the Hornets. ASU has flamed out after starting red hot early on in the season. With losses to Alcorn , PVAMU and recently AAMU, the season seems almost at a lost. Coach Barlow must find a way to get those Hornets back on track. Southern University has been hot of late. With 2 STRAIGHT wins over AAMU and JSU on the road, the Jags are setting themselves up for a possible return to the SWAC championship game if they can win out. With three straight home games, the JAGS may have a shot. However, the GMEN may have something to say about that come Thanksgiving though. My take …..The Jaguars continue their winning ways with a home win over the Hornets………
