SWAC FOOTBALL: TSU looks to continue their rise as they visit the Reservation

Good morning..Okay….Let’s get to it……As we head into the home strentch of the 2014 season, many teams are still jockeying for position to Houston. Coach Daryl Asberry has turned things around in Houston as his Tiger are off to their best start in many years. Lead by QB Smalls and a defense that has been second to none, TSU looks to stay in the race for the West crown. Trailing Grambling by a half game and tied with Southern at 3-1, they know that this trip to Lorman can go along way. Alcorn State will be celebrating their homecoming but still have a sour taste in their mouth as the GMEN put a loss on them at Grambling to make the race in the East a little closer. QB John Gibbs has been lights out for the Braves. Can Alcorn continue their dominance over the Tigers.  Other games of note:

PVAMU ( 2-4 , 2-3) at MVSU ( 2-5, 1-3)

PVAMU is fresh off a whipping of Alabama State at home 34-28 and looks to conbtinue thier winning ways up in the Delta. QB Lovelace and RB Hebert has been two of a kind. The Panthers defense has been special in limiting opponents in the Red Zone. MVSU has coming off a special win as Coach Comengy got even with JSU. Ruiniing their Homecoming was great also in a 27-23 win over the Tigers. Lead by WR Joshua Rice , nephew of MVSU great Jerry Rice , the Devils look to air it out again for their Homecoming as well.

UAPB ( 1-5 , 0-4) at Grambling State ( 4-3 , 4-0)

The Lions were dealt a blow as assist. Coach and former AAMU Head Coach Anthony Jones lost his son in a tragic event in Alabama. The entire SWAC family has been nothing but a shower of support for Jones and his family. Coach Monte Coleman has struggled at times with the young Lions as they look to break in the win colunm. Grambling has been hot of late as the Tigers won at home over the previously red hot Braves of Alcorn State. QB Jonathan Williams has added a spark to the Tigers offense that has been missing for two years. The defense has stepped up also. With Homecoming being the theme for the Tigers, I look to see the GMEN continue their winning ways…………realsportsrealtalk.
