Good morning, Ok, as we have reached the midpoint, SWAC teams have started to position themselves in what many may call a possible trip to Houston. However, the Biggest game of the year may be taking place in Grambling as the red hot Alcorn State Braves invade Robinson Stadium to take on the red hot Grambling Tigers. Both teams are seeking to move to 4-0 in league play as well as gain the inside track to a division title. Let’s break down this weekend matchups:

Alcorn State ( 5-1 , 3-0 ) @ Grambling State ( 3-3 , 3-0 )

Who would have thought that this game would mean something. Grambling State is coming off it’s worst season ever as a program and the Alcorn State Braves have been playing second fiddle to Jackson State and Alabama State the last two seasons. Well now, the Tigers with new coach , Brian Fobbs have been great as of late in Swac play and lead the West with a 3-0 record. The Tigers have won all of their games on the road as well so playing infront of a starving student body as well as a fan based would be a welcoming site. Alcorn State on the other hand has basically claimed their spot as the top program in the East as they have raced out to an 3-0 record as well. Coach Hopson has added discpline as well as athleticism to the Braves package. Can GSU’S Johnthan Williams off set the Braves John Gibbs?…..stay tuned…

Alabama State ( 4-2 , 2-1 ) at PVAMU ( 1-4 , 1-3 )

The Hornets were picked to play in Houston this season, however, with emergence of Alcorn State’s surge , the Hornets must run the table and hope the the Braves trip uo down the line. Reggie Barlow brings his Hornets to Houston to crash the Homecoming festivities of PVAMU. The Panthers are coming off a historic victory at Jackson State in whiuch the offense exploded for 28 points in the second half. Coach Northern is hoping to use that win as a mmentum builder for his young team as they welcome alumni and friends to the Hill for their Homecoming. Can PV get on a roll at home or will the Hornets be celebrating all the way back to Montgomery…..stay tuned….

MVSU ( 1-5 , 0-4) @ Jackson State ( 2-3 , 1-2 )

It’s Homecoming for the JSU Tigers as well as former coach, Rick Comengy as he leads his Delta Devils into Jackson looking to ruin the party for the Tigers. Valley is coming off a tough loss in Houston to TSU 20-16 , a game in which they lead heading into the fourth quarter. With IVY at QB , MVSU has moved the ball but the defense has given up the big play too many times. JSU is seeking redemption as they were defeated at home by a winless PVAMU team which scored 28 point in the second half. This game may be the next best game to the Alcorn/Grambling match up. Comengy would like nothing but to get a win against a program he lead for eight seasons. JSU needs a win like I need money…..stay tuned…

Southern University ( 3-3 , 2-1 ) @ Alabama A&M ( 2-4 , 1-3 )

As Sam Cooke would say, ” A change will come” and for Southern that change came as the Jags have gotten a few players back from the begging of the season fiasco of ceretification issues. Coming off a 51-36 win over UAPB, the Jags look to make up ground on GSU and TSU for the lead in the West. AAMU Bulldogs are coming off a tough loss at home to GSU 38-28 . Coach Spady’s Bulldogs wouldn’t like nothing but to upend the Jags and regain respect throughout the league. This game is important to both teams as they fight to stay in the hunt for a trip to Houston…….stay tuned….

Texas Southern and UAPB have an Open Date………
