Good morning , I hope that everyone had a great weekend….Ok , now that cupcakes and the money games are out the way, the real season begins. The Alcorn State Braves are making a case for dominance in the league as the are comning off a 52-10 blistering of Louisisana College at the Reservation. John Gibbs continues his brilliant play as he leads the braves in the air and on the ground. The defense is has playing lights out also. Heading into SWAC play should be exciting in Lorman, Ms. AAMU Bulldogs picked up some change in a big money game , however a loss with it as well. UAB didn’t waste no time in throttling the Bulldogs 41-14. AAMU heads into SWAC play looking for some answers as Coach James Spady look to break in the win column. Coach Byron Fobbs is still waiting to break into to the win column as the Grambling Tigers took another one on the chin 36-23 to the BCC Wildcats. The Tigers have been on a reclaimation tour trying to win back the alumni and fans alike. Grambling finally heads to Jackson State which may be a pivotal game on the SWAC slate this week. The Tigers backed out of JSU’S Homecoming last season and the Blue Bengals claimed to loss millions in revuenue. The can get their change back this weekened though. Alabama State opened SWAC play with a 47-22 win over Rick Comengy and his MVSU Delta Devils. The Hornets dominated the game early on however, the Devils put up a good fight to make the game respectable. Coach Barlow is trying to stay in the mix early with key showdowns remaining against Alcorn and JSU coming up. Texas Southern is the hottest team in the SWAC as the Tigers went to the islands and got their third win against the Central State 30-16. Coach Darrell Asberry has his Tigers primed for their SWAC matchup against AAMU Bulldogs in Houston. The Tigers offense and defense look good. Can TSU hold on…Jackson State traveled to Memphis to only get blindsided by the Tennesse State Tigers 35-7 in the Southern Heritage Classic. JSU was beatened badly on both sides of the ball. The Tigers must regroup in time for their matchup against Grambling, a much anticipated by both parties. PVAMU , is looking to break in the win column as the took one on the chin in Lake Charles against McNeese State 48-16. The Panthers were off last week and is still reeling from their defeat to TSU 2 weeks ago. The host Southern University this week for a key SWAC match that marks the first time since 1967 that the Jags have visited Pv. Both teams are looking for their first SWAC win. Southern is seeking to not only get their second win but notch a quality win as they are coming off a 51-27 drubbing of Northwestern State at home. Coach Dawson Odums has been dealing with more off the filed issues as players being ruled acdemically ineliglible every other day. Who will show up in Houston this week?  Time will tell.
