SWAC Basketball: Early results are in for 2014…..

Good Morning folks, Been on a vacation. Now its time to work. Well college football is over and NCAA basketball is in full swing. Arizona and Syracuse seems to be running the table as the top 2 big dawgs. Creighton and Kansas seem to be creeping up the ladder as well. UNC still hasn’t found the success neeeded to be a power in the ACC. Meanwhile, in SWAC play , Southern University has taken off like a bullet shot out of a gun. Lead by Malcolm Miller and Calvin Godfrey, the Jaguars are underfeated at 5-0 in conference play. Southern has won on the road and at home easily and with Roman Banks doing an excellent job of rotating his players in, the Jags seem to have hit all cylinders early. Alabama State are 1 game behind the Jags after pulling a big win over rival AAMU to up their record 4-1. Texas Southern, AAMU, Alcorn and PVAMU are all tied with a 3-2 records. TSU is coming off a tough loss at JSU while Alcorn and PVAMU are on winning streaks of late. Aron Murray is still a beast in the SWAC averaging 24 a game to lead the TSU Tigers. Alcorn and PVAMU have a bevy of players to lead them as well. JSU is sitting at 2-3 in conference play. The Tigers are lead by Center Best who is seconf behind TSU’S Murray in scoring and rebounding. MVSU and GSU are winless in conference play at 0-5. The Delta Devils have had to deal with off court distractions with bomb threats moving all students and faculty away from campus for a few days. Moving their home game to Alcorn didn’t help either. The Devils take on a tough Southern team in Greenville, Mississippi as a home game on Wedsnesday. With the first round of conference games nearly completed , the second round will bve worth the price of admission. I look to see if SU can hold off a health TSU Tiger team with the addition of Ray Penn and a surging Alcorn State team whose starting to find their identity. SWAC play will be great however, as we all now, anything can happen in the SWAC!!…Realsportsrealtalk!
