SWAC FOOTBALL: Key Showdowns this weekend will clear up the picture….

Good Morning folk……Its Friday and it’s time to get right to it. This weekend is very important for SWAC programs trying to seal their accommodations to Houston for the SWAC Championship Football game. In Baton Rouge, Southern celebrates it’s homecomiong vs. Alcorn State. Both Southern and Alcorn are coming off big road wins and if they plan on staying in the race, the winner will be there while the loser may need a little help. SU leads the West at 4-1 , while the Braves are tied in second at 5-1 one game behind Jackson State. Alcorn brings the Pistol offense lead by QB John Gibbs. Gibbs averages about 200 yards passing but, the ground game could give them 200 yards or more. The Braves lead the SWAC in passing defense and that will be challenges against the Pass happy Jags. SU is lead by QB Dray Joseph who has thrown for over 1200 yards so far and 10 plus TD’S. Lee Doss leads the Jags with catches and yards as well. The Jags defense will be tested as the Braves like to run the ball. This is a big matchup for both teams. In Shreveport , PVAMU takes on Jackson State in the Shreveport Classic. This game here is big as well. The Panthers are trying to stay close to Southern as they still have hopes of winning the West. They are 4-2 while the Tigers come in at 6-0 in conference play and look to fin off ALcorn and Alabama State to win the EAST. PVAMU’S offense is lead by 2QB’S throwing for over 300 YARDS A GAME. The panthers defense is not bad either. The Tigers are lead by QB Clayton Moore who is very balanced at what he does. Moore can beat you with his arm or legs. This game can make or break the Panther but the Tigers loss could make or break their season. Over in Birmingham , the MAGIC CITY CLASSIC pits the AAMU BULLDOGS vs. the ASU HORNETS. This game is big for both teams. The young Bulldogs need a signature win while the experience Hornets need a win to stay up with Jackson State in the race for the East crown. Anthony Jones leads the Bulldogs with a conservative but productive offense that can hurt you or help you. The defense is sound as usual. The Hornets are lead by RB Isiah Crowell on the ground and a agressive defense under Kevin Ramsey that has come to life. This is a big weekend for SWAC football. The picture will become clearer and clearer as we move into Novemeber……..realsportsrealtalk…
