BYU: Davis broke the code by being a man?……

MORNING FOLK….MANY ATHLETES TODAY ATTEND COLLEGE TO GAIN AN INSIGHT ON WHAT THE WORLD WILL OFFER THEM IN THE FUTURE. OTHERS ATTEND TO ENJOY THE RITES OF BEING A COLLEGE STUDENT. HOWEVER, BRANDON DAVIS DID WHAT EVERY COLLEGE MALE STUDENT HAS DONE FOR MANY YEARS…HAVING INTIMACY WITH HIS GIRLFRIEND. DAVIS LATER TOLD SOMEONE, WHICH IMMEDIATELY COST HIM A DISMISSAL FROM THE BASKETBALL TEAM. DAVIS HAD BEEN AN VERY IMPORTANT PART TO BYU’S SUCESS HOWEVER WITHOUT HIM, WE SAW LAST NIGHT THAT BYU IS NOT AS GOOD AS THEY ADVERTISED. NEW MEXICO CAME TO PROVO AND GAVE THEM A BEAT DOWN. JIMMY FREDERETTE WAS NOT ENOUGH. I KNOW KNOW THAT BYU HAS DIFFERENT STANDARDS AS A PRIVATE MISSIONARY SCHOOL AS COMPARED TO PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES, BUT TO SUSPEND THAT KID FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE YEAR SEEMS TO BE A LITTLE HARSH. TEACHING THE KID A LESSON WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER FROM THE COLLEGE STAND POINT OF VIEW. THE CODE OF ETHICS AT BYU MUST BE FOLLOWED BUT I REALLY BELIEVE THAT THE CODE COULD HAVE BEEN LESS SEVERE THAT INTENDED. LIVING A CHASTE LIFE IS UNDERSTANDABLE AT BYU BUT STUDENTS SHOULD GET A SECOND CHANCE. DAVIS DID NOTHING CRIMINAL. HE WAS JUST BEING A MAN WHO HAS NEEDS WITH THE WOMEN HE LOVES. I THINK THAT BYU’S ADMINISTATION SHOULD APPLY THE DUE PROCESS LAW HERE. EVERYONE MAKES A MISTAKE AND HE SHOULD BE TAKEN FOR CONSIDERATION AS A STUDENT WHO MADE A MISTAKE. WHAT DO YALL THINK?…..REAL TALK…TALK TO ME……..

You know the code before you sign on the dotted line to attend the school… He is from Provo, so he knew even more the situation he was getting into… I also graduated from a school that had a strict honor code… So I can by no means “feel sorry for him”… Calling premarital sex “being a man” does not sit well with me nor does it follow the the honor code in which you sign when you attend a school like this… Calling the premarital sex act he engaged in a “mistake” is far from the truth… He and his mate knew exactly what they were doing, and it was not a mistake – it was deliberate… I also agree whole heartedly with Steve Young, a BYU graduate, that you know the rules going in – Don’t want to follow the rules, don’t attend… My 2 cents….

Thanks Kevin for your comments. I totally agree with your take on this situation. Rules are rules but somehow, I think that others might have done the same thing or even more and it might have been kept quiet. Nothing against BYU nor its code, but rules have been flexible before. The kid made a mistake. There should be something in place such as a process for greivance or due process. This is America……

I totally agree with Kevin he knew the Honor code before going to BYU. It will hurt BYU in the tournament with him not there.

  3. darrell says:

rules are rules. he knew the rules before he signed. but, if you give the whole school a lie detector test, there would not be enough students to attend. they would shut the school down!!

Yeah, BYU suspended its all-time leading rusher Harvey Unga last season for breaking the honor code.

A female basketball player was also kicked off the team for a similar incident. There shouldn’t be any due process because all the students know what the deal is when they enroll in school.

I’m quite sure that other BYU students have broken the honor code and were not caught or did not come forward.

But that doesn’t mean BYU should look the other way after a student-athlete turned himself in.

I know when we were living at home with mom and dad, and we broke a house rule or something there was no such thing as due process or a review to determine what our punishment would be. We got reprimanded on the spot. LOL.
