NCAA: Assistant coaches can get millions but players can’t?……What wrong with this picture……

HEY FOLK, I NORMALLY DONT RANT UNTIL FRIDAY, BUT I CANT HELP BUT SNEAK ONE IN THIS MONDAY AFTERNOON. NCAA PREZ, MARK EMMERT SAID WITH HEART THAT STUDENT ATHLETES DOES NOT NEED TO GET PAID UNDER NCAA GUIDELINES THAT HE IS IMPOSING UNDER HIS WATCH. HOWEVER, WITH THE ECONOMY AS MESSED UP AS IT IS AND MANY HARD WORKING FOLKS AS MY SELF ASKING FOR A RAISE OR EVEN A BREAK, THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA HAS BROKEN THE BANK. THE GATORS ARE PAYING THEIR ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACHES OVER THREE MILLION DOLLARS ANUALLY. KNOW SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE. WILL MUSCHAMP WAS HIRED TO WIN BALL GAMES BUT HE HAS NOT COACHED ONE GAME AND HIS ASSISTANT COACHES MAKE NEARLY ENOUGH MONEY MORE THAN THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA. CHARLIE WEIS, FORMER NORTRE DAME COACH SIGNED A DEAL WORTH 2.5 MILLION AND DAN QUINN SIGNED A DEAL WORTH 1 MILLION. MUSCHAMP SIGNED A DEAL WORTH 13.5 MILLION. OTHER GATOR ASSISTANT COACHES ARE EVEN IN THE THREE FIGURE RANGE ALSO. THERE MIGHT BE MANY SCHOOL DEANS AND DEPARTMENT HEADS ANGRY ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY GIVING OUT THOSE HIGH SALARIES WHEN THEY ARE THE MEET OF THE UNIVERSITY. I KNOW GOOD PEOPLE MIGHT BE HARD TO FIND BUT, DOOLING OUT THAT TYPE OF MONEY TO ME IS UN ETHICAL. MUSCHAMP MUST PLAN ON BEEING IN THE BCS GAME BECUASE IF HE IS PLAYING IN THE CHIKFILA BOWL IN ATLANTA, HE OWES THE GATOR COMMUNITY MONEY. IN CONCLUDING, DO YOU THINK ASSISTANT COACHES SALARIES NEED TO BE AS HIGH AS PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES OR EVEN SOME ENTERTAINERS…TALK TO ME …..REAL TALK…….

Not a proponent of paying student-athletes… Opening up a can of worms…. HBCU’s can’t pay what bigger schools would…

  2. ttownbasketball says:

i aint mad at them for making that money, i am a coach and we work hard for the money. i think kids should be able to hold a job to get paid but they dont need to be paid to play. real talk

you right but there should be limitations though….Assistant Coaches are over paid at Florida……Students will get money one way or the other….NCAA will slow it down though……

this is a very touchy subject. if you change the rules, what’s the best way? they are student athletes and are getting a free education, traveling free, eating well. on the other hand, they are putting in their hard sweat to make the university win. it only seems fair that the players receive something, but how much is the question. coaches are like CEOs of corp. and they are controlling profit centers. football coaches are paid more than any state employees because they help generate the most profits. winning coaches deserve to get paid if you look at the business bottom line. but at the same time, players should receive something because they are on the field.

  4. Kendrick says:

College athletes don’t get a free education per say.

    1. Scholarships are not four-year agreements. They are one-year agreements that need to be renewed each year by the coach. He, for any reason, can decide to revoke it.

    2. Not all student athletes are on full-scholarship. Some are on partial. Some just get room and board. Some just get enough to cover books.

  5. Sean Benton says:

    Hey Ken,

I agree but either 1 or 4 years are based on productivity on the court, feild and the classroom too…..Those coaches want bring back a dummy even if he is MIKE JORDAN…YOU STILL HAVE TO GO TO CLASS…….

THOSE COACHES ARE OVER PAID PERIOD…….
