Double Standards for college coaches?……..

JUST RECENTLY, BOTH UCONN’S JIM CALHOUN AND TENNESSE’S BRUCE PEARL WERE REPRIMANDED FOR BREAKING NCAA RULES. HOWEVER, THE NCAA HAS TOLD CALHOUN HE WOULD ONLY MISS A FEW GAMES AND PEARL HAS MISSED MOST OF THE SEC SCHEDULE BUT HE IS ALREADY BACK ON THE BENCH. NOW HERE IS THE KICKER.  BOTH PEARL AND CALHOUN COVERED UP INFRACTIONS BY LYING TO THE NCAA AND THEY KEPT THEIR JOBS. FOLK LIKE, KELVIN SAMPSON AND TODD BOZEMAN WERE INVESTIGATED AND BANNED FROM COLLEGE BASKETBALL FOR TEN YEARS OR SO. BOZEMAN, THE HEAD COACH AT MORGAN STATE WAS LUCKY TO GET BACK IN AFTER SERVING HIS TIME. HOWEVER, SAMPSON WAS BANNED FOR MAKING TOO MANY PHONE CALLS?…FOLK…PEARL LIED TO THE NCAA AND CALHOUN COVERED UP INFO. WHERE IS THE JUSTICE. WHERE IS THE FAIRNESS. CALHOUN IS A HALL OF FAME COACH BUT HE STILL HAS MORALS AND VALUES TO GO BY. PEARL , AS YOU RECALLED DROPPED DIME YEARS AGO ON ANOTHER COACH COSTING HIM HIS JOB. WHAT’S THE DEAL HERE? DOES THE NCAA HAS FLEXIBLE RULES FOR DIFFERENT COACHES?…..TALK TO ME……

You are correct. Double standard all the way. Calhoun maybe because of his hall of fame career and clout but I don’t know why Pearl got special treatment.

There is a lot that goes on behind closed doors in sports that us fans don’t know or hear about. I personally think that some money exchanged hands under the table. The NCAA has clear rules about what conduct is allowed and the punishments for breaking those rules. So how can two similar situations end up with totally different outcomes? Calhoun and Pearl carry a high value to their respective schools. Given the potential loss of revenue due to a departure would decrease a large revenue base for either school. That’s why I think they will do whatever it takes to keep the peace.
